Measuring for floors

We're getting pergo style floors everywhere and it's about time to order them. This sounds stupid, but any tricks we need to know about measuring the floor?  I just figured I'd section everything off into square/rectangle sections and measure.  Then I was told to add 10%. Anything else?

Re: Measuring for floors

  • The co you order them through should come out and measure for you ...unless your diy. Then that sounds right . Do you have a floorplan from the builder...Could use it for a reference, also if you do over buy most places will let you return as long as they aren't open. Also one big tip is to let the boxes sit for atleast a day do they can aclimate to the humidity. Prevents the wood from warping. Good luck!

  • I don't think you have to worry about acclimating Pergo.  But, your plans sound great!  If you have alot of funny angles or tight places (hallways, etc), you may want to up your waste a little bit, especially if you can return any unopened boxes.  I'm not sure if this applies to Pergo like the acclimation thing, but make sure you get the same dye lot (hence buy extra all at once) so they match well.  Good luck!
  • Good luck. We just did laminate diy but the guy who was helping us diy does it for a living so he came out to measure for us. He also did tell us to have it in the house for a day to acclimate. I didn't understand since it's not real wood so I didn't think it needed it but we listened to him.
