Uncanny or others from SK - CSA

Check out www.justbeef.ca (click by NEW in red). I don't know if you have heard about this CSA (it's the only one I have found in our area). Anyway, I just signed up and got a letter from the farmer that they are looking for more families.

Just thought I would share the info!

  • That's really cool!

I'm set up for beef (my parents raise cows), but the chicken share is pretty neat. Too bad it's 400 km away.

CHEP does do a local box in the summer:

You might want to look into that, if you're in Saskatoon. I've also had luck finding farm eggs on kijiji (but they tend to be around $3/dozen).

Oh, my envy at LCOL areas or apparently Canada.  My Farmer's Market charges $4.50-$5 for a dozen eggs, and by your tone $3 is high for you.  Le Sigh.

Oh, you can easily pay $5/dozen.

Or you can pay $2.50/dozen if you find a good source.

It's not a COL issue - it's a finding a farmer that sells for cheap issue.

  • You can get free range duck eggs for $3/dozen in Leesburg.

Don't assume farmer's market prices are the be all and end all. Farmer's markets charge overhead - buying eggs in a gas station parking lot at 7 in the morning cuts costs. Stick out tongue

  • Sorry I posted and ran. But the Neu Farm delivers downtown by Earl's once or twice a month (depending on the season). So, you don't have the option to pick your own, but it does save the 400 kms worth of gas.

I'll have to check out that CHEP link in more detail. Thanks!
