iPod Touch won't charge - help!

I have an 8GB (got it in 2008... I think) iPod Touch. I can not for the life of me get the battery to charge! It says 'Battery is less that 10%' - so I plug it in, the computer recognizes it, but it won't charge.

I've tried a different port, a different cord, wall charger, car charger, reseting the ipod through settings and by holding down the Power and Home buttons (all suggestions on the Apple website). All with no luck.

The only other thing I can think of is to do a full system restore - which I DO NOT want to do it I can help it.

Any other suggestions that I might be missing?

  • My iphone does this too. I shut it off and turn it back on and it always works. Must be a battery problem. At&t told me to take to Apple to have it diagnosed.

Do you have an Apple store nearby that you can take it in to?

If not, I'd suggest setting up a call with the Apple support people.  They might know some trick to make it work.

  • Same thing happens to me at times with my brand new iphone. I just turn it off and back on, and the charge pops back up.
  • I had this same problem last year. it wouldn't charge and we tried to do do a full reset and followed apple suggestion and it did help either. I ended up just shutting it down for a few months with the intent to either buy a new one or find a new bettery. I was able to find a battery at i fix it dot com for $20. I have a 1st gen and it works great now.
