While I usually have a creative mind, it is spacing out on this.
My husband is turning 40 !!!
I can't figure out what would be the best thing to do. Well, I know the best thing would be to go to Hawaii... but, there are so many things to consider.
The biggest is that his birthday is midweek in June. My daughter is in school. She, of course, wants to be a part of his birthday. We can't leave her out and go to Hawaii. She can't miss school either. So-o-o, that is out... at least, for that day.
Here are the things that I'm pondering (and some can be combined)
1) Have a small birthday party at home on the actual birthday weekday with our family. His mom, brother, SIL, sister, BIL, adult niece and nephew (in their early 30s) and some children all live here. Also invite a few close friends.
2) Same people as above, but have dinner at a restaurant instead of our house
3) Same people. Rent a cool place for the weekend. I've been checking out vrbo and CL for rentals. They have everything from places in Seattle to cabins in the mountains. It seems like it would be fun to get a place within driving distance. People could come for the day or spend the weekend.
4) No more people. Take a romantic weekend with just the 2 of us. My daughter has 3 weekends per month with her dad/my ex. If we still celebrated my H's bday on the real day, she would not feel excluded. H and I could just sneak away the weekend prior to his birthday.
5) Wait until summer (end of June) and go on a real week-long vacation/celebration.
HELP! I need your brilliant ideas. What would make the big 4-0 memorable?
Re: Creative minds come in
I'm voting for #5. Go to Hawaii, live it up and have a great time!
I agree completely! Sometimes those big parties/gtg's are fun and a great surprise but it's the more intimate vacation that would have the most impact (and memories) in the end
Like you said, just do something on the day of like a nice dinner at home (or out) and surprise him with the trip?
I love Hawaii!

Yeah, have a nice, quiet dinner at home on the day, and wrap up tickets to HI in a box for a few weeks from then....awesome!

You didn't mention whether finances are a consideration or not, so I'll assume they're not...
I would do number 4 (Romantic Getaway) to celebrate the actual birthday and for his gift tell him you're taking him and your daughter to Hawaii once school is out!
Since his bday is midweek and you want to celebrate with DD, why not invite the whole fam over for cake and ice cream? That covers number 1 too. Heck, you only turn 40 once!
