What are your favorite flowers for full-sun window box?
We have 2 southern facing window boxes that are in the sun for about 7-8 hours a day. Any recommendations for some flowers that work well there besides portulaca and petunias?
Re: What are your favorite flowers for full-sun window box?
lantana
Geraniums. Last summer when all my other flowers had wilted and just given up in August, the geraniums were still going strong. They do best when dead-headed a few times a week - I'm not sure if your window boxes are accessible.
I know lantana as almost a shrub (3'x3') - it's not something I'd put in a window box, but maybe pp knows of dwarf varieties I'm not familiar with.

Thinking of doing cosmetic updates to a dated home? These were our costs.
Vinca (aka Madagascar Periwinkle)
Annual Verbena
Geraniums
Annual Salvia
Pentas
Marigolds
Coleus - mainly used for foliage color. My garden book says it can take full sun. I didn't think it could, but it's worth a shot.
Vincas are one plant I'm never without in my garden. They thrive in summer heat, are drought tolerant, and need no deadheading. For me, I've noticed that they tend to self-seed vigorously. In fact although they are annuals, I have seedlings pop up in my garden beds year after year. If you plant them in a container, you will need to cut it back in the heat of the summer because it will grow quickly.
Callibrachoa, love it! (Some people call it million bells)
I recently came across a double yellow variety, but personally, I like all of the vibrant colors!
Oh,and to add to that, this year I mixed Carlos lantana
with orange and deep pink calibrachoa
in my deck boxes.
