Our son's baptism is at 1pm and would like to have a small get together at our house afterwards. With the baptism starting at 1pm, we will probally not get back to our house til 2. It's kind of an odd time for a meal but would like to do something other than just cake. Any suggestions? And how would you word the invitation?
Re: Baptism Celebration ?
If people are local then I'd do light apps- tortilla roll ups, proscuitto wrapped melon, hummus and crudite, maybe something hot.
If people are traveling then I'd tend to something a little heavier- sandwiches or chicken salad, pasta salad, things with more protein I guess.
I would assume that people would be really hungry by 2 pm. If they got to the church by 12:45 for the 1 pm baptism, then they might have left their homes around 12:15. Which means they didn't have lunch.
I would definitely provide enough food for a "meal." Be it plenty of finger foods or sandwiches and salads like PP suggested.
As far as the invite goes, how about something along the lines of "please join us for a luncheon at our home immediately following the baptism."
Also, something to keep in mind, depending on the number of guests, it might be worth it to consider lunch at a restaurant. I just went to a First Communion this weekend. It was 15 of us and the parents invited us to local restaurant. With apps, meals and a couple of pitchers of sangria, it must've been around $300. They brought their own cake and the restaurant lent us plates and forks. The plus: no clean-up, before or after!
HTH.
I would word the invitation to say lunch will be served at ____ following the ceremony.
You could do wraps, meat and cheese platter, hamburgers and hotdogs, or pulled BBQ pork
I would serve food as well...as another poster suggested, some people may have left their homes at noon to get to the church on time so may have missed lunch.
You can serve a cruidite platter, spinach dip w/ bread, hummus, pita chips, fruit platter - baked ziti, salad, and garlic rolls. Plus, the cake.
