BC + low libido

So here's the thing.  Love my Husband and I can't see being with anyone else he is there for me in whatever I do and any problems I have I can go to him with. 

 This is the problem we have.  I have an extremely low almost non existant sex drive.  We've talked about it and have decided on a few things that we'd like to try to get it up and running again. As well we've tried different things over the years and know what we like and what we dont but we definitely used to be more active sexually. I'm going to chalk it up to the BC I've been using because in the past I've taken different kinds and been fine but this last year or so it is a different brand. 

 My question is has anyone on BC had an issue with low sex drive while on birth control and what did you do to help get back into the groove?

For me when I had this issue I got off of BC completely.  Hormonal BC did me in.  I would talk to your doctor about other options or at least get your levels checked.

Talk to your doc about this, it could also be something psychological that you need to work through.

I was on the BCP for 8 years and just 3 months ago went off...my sex drive has definitely increased but again talk to your doc about all your options.

I had this same issue. I was on the pill for about a year and a half, and at first I didn't notice any change in my libido. But after 10months or so I noticed that my sex drive was almost non-existent as well. I knew this was not like me. Plus I was suddenly tired and getting headaches all the time. I went off the pill about 2 months ago and I feel like myself again. Everything i back to normal :-) Talk to your doctor and see if you can switch BC,or even consider going off of it completely...Good luck!

I had this problem also.  I had it on orthocyclen, loestrin, and yasmin.  Now I'm BC free and my libido's much higher.  My doctor tried to get me to try nuvaring b/c she said it didn't have the same effect.

I'm glad you posted this! I am having the same issue. I am currently on loestrin but have been on several different kinds & I have noticed a huge drop in my sex drive. I was thinking about going off it this month--I think I will! Condoms suck but it's worth it not to have the side effects that come along with taking hormones.

Once this month is over for my pill cycle I've decided I'm going to go off BC because as it is we'd like to try for kids in the fall and I need 3 or 4 months to clear out my system.  So we'll see how it goes after.

Being newly married (only 5 months) I was also on BC and noticed the same thing going on in my sex drive. I believed it was the fact that we are married, no more spark BUT I recently started BC so I think I am going to talk to my doc about this.

what birth control are you on I used to take LoEstrin Fe and had a fantastic libido and couldn't get enough of my husband but since i got put on Ortho tricyclen lo i have had no libido and changes in my hormones has actually made sex painful for me fortunately I am switching back to LoEstrin this saturday

I had the same problem as everyone else. I tried MANY different BC pills and tried the Nuva Ring and still had a low sex drive. I got off BC completely in December and now I want sex all the time!!!!!!!!!!!! Condoms aren't fun but I'd rather use them and have a high sex drive than not have one at all!

I would try going off BC and see how you feel in a few months and if it is still low, then contact your doctor.
