Any DIY fountains?

We would really like to have a water feature to the side of the patio  I found a pretty bright blue ceramic one that looks like a ball sitting in a bird bath.  it was $169 for the entire thing including pump at a nursery.  But i'm wondering if we should just DIY.  But I wonder if it's a better deal to DIY or just get the one I found?  Sorry, no pics.

Whether it's a good deal depends on how big it is. Some of them are tiny and the pump volume is lacking. If it's big enough, and you can return it, buy it and try it out in the space.

It's about 30" tall. It's very similary to this but maybe a bit more slender:

I would put it up against the fence and plant a vine behind it.  Maybe either an orange honeysuckle, a cross vine, or bouganvilla and add some rocks at the base and other plants around it to create a focal point.
My brother is encouraging me to DIY but that would require digging a hole, making it level, finding a pot that I like and putting it all together.   I had originally wanted something more like just a pot overflowing down into a basin covered with rocks.

The style we're going for is a bit Texas Hill Country meets Mexican hacienda.  I love color but i'm trying to do as much drought tolerant things as i can do.
