Miss USA Glam Photos

Ok ladies... what do you all think about the Miss USA 2010 Glam Photos?  They decided to step away from the traditional glam photos and do a boudoir style shoot - I guess because the pageant is being held in Las Vegas or something.  Apparently a lot of people are upset about the photos.  So.... what are your opinions?

Re: Miss USA Glam Photos

  • Well on one hand I can understand why people are upset, since the Miss USA/America/Universe/Whatever shows are generally considered "family" entertainment (at least I think they are?), and I wouldn't consider boudoir photos family friendly...however, there's less skin on show in most of those images than there is in the average bikini shot from the competition. Weird how a bra can somehow be more racy than a swimsuit even if there's less flesh on display, isn't it? Somehow it implies nekkidness more than a swimsuit does.
  • I see what you're saying about the "family" entertainment.. even though I do not consider it "family" entertainment - I don't even watch the pageant (especially not being in Germany).  I am with you on the swimsuit/bikini photos being no better or worse than these.  Perhaps these were a little too sexy for family entertainment but I lump this pageant in there with the Victoria Secret runway show.  I think the photos were very tasteful... just like boudior photos, I love how they celebrate the women's bodies.  I prefer these photos to the swimsuit photos.

  • Judging by the low user ratings (mostly 2 out of 5 stars), people aren't really digging it.

It's a little over the top for me.  I grew up watching these shows with my family and they've definitely become more sexualized over the years.  And if there must be bikinis.... it's one thing to wear one to highlight a fit, toned body, and another to strut like a Victoria Secret model oozing with sex.  Sort of like I wouldn't mind taking my child to the beach, but I wouldn't want to take him to a hostess bar.

Then again, maybe that's just a new direction for the pageant, and if so, people are completely free to watch (with families or without) or not.  Wink

I personally don't really view it as "family" entertainment either, but I have the impression that's what it's considered in a general "this show is a drama, this is reality TV, this is a family show" kind of way. Hopefully that makes sense!

I think the comparison to a Victoria Secret runway show is a good one!

  • Okay, I think the shots look more real than those silly bikini shots (not so plastic like), but what I like best about them is it means that there (hopefully) won't be any hypocrites a la Carrie Prejan (?) style whining on about their sexual morals and values. I can't stand it when people get all wrapped up in repressing others' sexuality while pretending they're nuns.

    This exactly.

  • Lisa - I think the Miss USA pageant wanted to be considered a family show... but with pictures like these, I think they are moving more towards another genre... maybe reality?  Game show?  :)  I have no idea...

  • Isn't this the one owned by Donald Trump? Miss America is the "family friendly" one. This one is all those gals who end up having nudey pic scandals or doing drugs. That said, I think the photos are gorgeous but not for something your pedeling as family entertainment. And remember they did have a reality show with the Miss USA girls already...can't remember what it was called. But the one that got caught doing drugs was on it. Anyone remember?

LOL! Amd I agree about the whole "pretending to be nuns" thing. It annoys me when politicians do that too...

This is what my thoughts were too...although I think what may be upsetting to some is that the boudoir pics exude overt sexuality whereas with the bikini shots they can delude themselves into thinking that it's just displaying healthy/fit beach bodies (i.e. no sexual connotation implied)...yeah right!  For years beauty pageants have sought to sell that they are not objectifying women by parading them around in bathing suits (with 4" platform heels, no less) nor by dolling them up to the nines in evening gowns...that these things were a necessary part of the scholarship competition to show how well rounded these young women are...obviously with the boudoir shoot this whole exploitation issue is a little less murky and pretty obvious, IMHO.

I know, right?! It just kills me whenever that lame excuse is trotted out! Makes you wonder if those things would be part of a male pageant (mankinis all around!), if such a thing existed...
