AHR- Low Key BBQ

Hi Nesties

Hope everyone is having a wonderful start of their week!  I am trying to tie up all the last minute details for our Welcome Back BBQ/AHR.  When we planned this it all sounded much better than it seems to be turning out.  So let me know what you think, we planned a very causual open house BBQ at my MIL's home... my worry is that it is too casual.  We are just planning on setting up pictures, slideshows and our wedding DVD with luau/fiesta decor in a backyard BBQ setting.  Do you think our guests will be horrified that it is so casual for a wedding "reception"? 

 We are doing a candy buffet and have fun favors for adults and kids, but any other fun ideas you all have would be awesome??

Lights!  Although the BBQ is probably during the day... So maybe the effect wouldn't be so good, but string lights everywhere, to jazz it up a bit.

That's essentially what DH and I did, but at our house.  We were very clear with guests that it was pretty casual and drop-in, and all of our guests seemed happy with it!  They came, they drank, they chatted, they ate six cupcakes, and they left As long as your guests don't show up expecting something big and crazy, I bet you'll have a great party!

That's pretty much what we're doing, I think (I'm letting MIL plan most of it, since it's up in Michigan for DH's family that couldn't come).   I would just mention that it's a BBQ or something, so that people understand that it's more casual.

Thats exactly what we did and our guests loved that they could be relaxed.  Whenever its a relaxed setting, people laugh louder and just have a more better time...IMO. I definately agree with the lights   But everything else you have planned sounds perfect!

Steffy, this is exactly what we're doing for our AHR here in California this Saturday.  Total laid back.  We are having a DJ only because he's a friend of ours, but that's probably the only 'big' thing really.  We were also lucky to have some other friends of ours who own a local brewery donate three pony kegs. 

I tried to make sure everyone knew ahead of time that it was a casual, laid back, backyard type of reception.

I think it would be fine as long as your guest know.  A friend of mine had her reception at a park on the weekend and just cooked out.  It wasn't a DW, just a very small (15ppl) wedding and they wanted everyone to celebrate with them at a 'reception'.  They played some music as well and yard games.

You ladies made me feel SO much better!  We did make it very clear that it was a pop in open house with food, very casual!

I love the lights idea...hopefully I can find some fun lighting to hang   Have fun at your BBQ Shelli!!
