When to plant bell peppers?

I'm in Northern California, specifically the Sacramento Valley. Anyone know when bell peppers should be planted?

Re: When to plant bell peppers?

  • What zone are you in?  I'm in 5b and mine were in the ground 2 weeks ago.

I'm in Northern CA, right next to the bay (Sunset 17), and I've had mine in for a couple of weeks.  I usually plant in late April, and my bell peppers produce well here.  Sacramento Valley is hotter than the bay, isn't it (I've never been there)?

  • I'm zone 5.  I was going to try & plant last weekend but as soon as I heard we had a round of cold & snow coming I decided to wait until Memorial Day Weekend.  I may try & use a couple of my little seedlings, but will definitely hit the garden center for the largest plants I can find then.

  • I usually try to get them in the 3rd weekend in May, but this year I might have to delay till Memorial Day.  Peppers like it warm and with the recent snow here it is way too cold.  Hopefully, it will warm up my seedlings are getting big!

  • My mom is in that area, and I think she planted hers a couple of weeks ago. I'm in the bay area and planted mine (into pots) a week and a half ago. They're doing great so far.
