7yo Girl Birthday Party Theme Ideas?

My sister asked if I would help plan, and put together my niece's upcoming birthday party. Being I have a little boy who's only 2, I have no clue what would be fun for a 7yo girl. Her birthday is in June.

I know that I don't want to do something too commerical (like Barbie, for example). I've seen lots of neat ideas for younger girls, like cupcake theme or spring garden, and would like to go that route but think that might be a bit too young.

Is a beach/hawaiian theme too overused? Thought hulu skirts etc...might be kind of fun.

Open to all suggestions. Thanks!

  • I have a 7 year old step-daughter. Since you don't want to do something commercial, I think your idea of a beach/hawaiian theme sounds wonderful! You could have the kids make their own lei's. Or even buy shells somewhere and make shell necklaces.

Or your idea of a spring garden theme would work too. They could plant their own flowers! Buy some cheap pots and have them decorate them and plant a flower or two in there.

Another suggestion would be to do a tea party but your other ideas sound more fun! HTH!

  • Little girls in hula skirts would be adorable.  I'd do a luau theme for sure.

I think a luau would be fun for them!  Especially if you had the skirts and leis for everyone to dress up in!  You could do a mini tiki hut and have hawaiian "mocktails" and do bright girly colors like pink, purple, yellow, etc.  You could also, for an activity, have them learn a hula dance, do the limbo, etc.  Fun beach games!

A garden party would be fun too and like pp said, planting flowers except it might be fun to do the dirt dessert for flower pots (flower pots with the oreo cookie/cr. cheese mixture, gummie worms, etc.) instead!

  • My niece turned 6 last year and they had a tea party theme - everyone dressed up, they had pcitures taken, served tea sandwiches, cupcakes, had individual fruit bouquets...

  • I like the gardening idea.  They could paint a little pot and take home a flower as a favor.

For a beach/luau you could have them decorate flip flops.

I do have to ask what the kid wants though.  7 is certainly old enough to have an opinion.

  • I like the luau idea...lots of fun things to dress up the party from orientaltrading.com

I went to a 6 year old's Unbirthday Party - the theme was Alice in Wonderland - it was really cute and fun - teacups everywhere...

  • when I was that age I had a really fun dress up birthday party.  my mom went all around town to different thrift stores and picked up formal and prom dresses and had tons of ribbon that we could use to make the dresses fit and stay on, and then her and my grandma served us a formal lunch.  it was so much fun!
  • Since it's in the summer time what about a ladybug theme? That might be a nice theme since she's a bit older.
