Portugal and/or Spain?

Anyone been there? I've asked about it on the travel board but didn't know if any of you have been there. We're thinking mid october this year. Any cool places that I need to go to, etc? Thanks ladies

Re: Portugal and/or Spain?

  • I'm sorry I can't be of more personal help, but my IL's have been to Spain and they loved it. My MIL barely likes anything, and she doesn't like traveling, and even she loved Spain. So I'm sure you'll love it. Sounds like a great trip!
  • I'm headed to Barcelona and Madrid this summer to visit friends, so I'll be able to help after August! Barcelona is supposed to be beautiful...

The mister has driven all over Spain and Portugal, and he loved (and has crazy stories about) Cordoba, Ibiza, and Seville. I hope I can convince him to head back there with me!

  • Can't say anything for Spain-haven't been there yet.  But Portugal is abeautiful country.  We did Lisbon, Porto, and a handful of smaller towns.  We stayed in Porto for a few days.  Manchester was playing-so it was total mayhem!  I am not much of a port drinker, but it was fun going to the different port houses.  We had dinner at Taylors-excellent views.  Lisbon is good for some day trips.  Lisbon has a good musuem, Belem, the St. jerome monastery, the castle, Bairro Alto was the place for dinners, clubs, pubs.  I love Alfama-lots of Arabic influence.   Obidos was my favorite town-old quaint, cobblestone streets, and they had a chocolate festival going on-so I was in heaven!  Pena Palace was also nice.  Coimbra has one of the oldest universities in Europe.  If you need any specific recs-let me know.

  • I've never been myself, but it's been on my must-see-list ever since I saw Vicky Christina Barcelona.  That move will make you fall in love with Spain if you're undecided.  :)

Other than, I have a handful of friends who've visited and come back with rave reviews.  Another friend of mine is studying abroad there this semester and has put up some amazing photos on FB.
