Cottage style flower garden
What type of flowers do you think of for cottage style flower gardens? I'd love to have something very colorful, unstructured and informal ... cottage style.

I think of heather, lavendar, lamb's ear, vinca minor, campanula, sweet rocket, delphinium, stock, snapdragons, forget-me-nots, michaelmas daisies, sweet pea, portulaca/purslane/moss roses, tea roses/vine roses
Beware. If you're thinking the informal border is easier to maintain, think again. One of the characteristics of cottage design is that the plants be self-seeding. To maximize the cottage garden, you're not supposed to mulch, so the perennials can land on soil and sprout. Guess what else is self seeding? Weeds.
Can you see where I'm going with this?
