grrr - need to vent

I have a month to month pre-pay parking space.  I also work/park very close to an athletic complex that occasionally hosts mid afternoon games.  Despite pre-paying for an assigned space, the management of my lot insists on allowing sport go-ers to park in the lot as well even though it says right on all their signage "RESERVED DAYTIMES"

Today, I was leaving to run errands on my lunch break which was about 2 hours ahead of a sports event but they were parking sporties already.  The owner was there - I've never met him but he has a very distinct voice that you'd know in an instant - and I let him know that I was spot X and that I had to leave but I was coming back in an hour.  He had the gall to tell me that my spot would be gone!

He seriously picked the wrong lady to tick off today.  I reminded him that I've paid for the spot between the hours of 6 am and 7 pm Monday through Friday on a monthly contract basis so the space is mine regardless of the status of the game.  He honestly told me I have to plan my life around the sports schedule!

At that point I told him I was leaving and that if I came back and my space was filled by someone, I would either call him to call a tow or else I'd park in the most expensive lot I can find and send him the receipt and he could take it off of my rental for the next month.  He backed down a little bit but then insisted that it was my responsibility to ensure that nobody parked in the spot.  I found a cone just so I could get out of there but seriously... how does me paying for an assigned spot obligate me to ensure nobody parks there?!  That's his job!

I reported it to the BBB and am debating sending a complaint to the state attorney general to investigate.  He runs more than just my parking lot and if he's doing it there, he's doing it somewhere else too.  It would be like me renting an apartment and him deciding that since I might be gone during the day, he can rent it out to someone else too.  Ugh, so irritated right now.

Vent over.

Re: grrr - need to vent

  • Ugh, how irritating!  I can't believe he tried to justify himself. I mean, the sign's right there!

One of my former apartments shared a parking lot with the local library (which had a 3 hr parking limit).  Our assigned parking spots were way in back, about a block from my place.  Well, one night I came home to find someone in my spot.  Instead of being a b!tch and parking at the front of the library (steps from my place) I tried to be as accomodating as possilbe and simply park across the aisle from my normal place.

Result? $50 on me.  Went to court to argue it on the grounds that I couldn't park in my spot if I had wanted to.  Didn't work so much -still had to pay up.

So I feel your pain when someone takes your assigned spot.  Super Angry

  • That's so annoying.  I would buy a ton of large orange cones and put them all over my parking space when I left.  In college we didn't pay for our spaces....but we would move the parking lot trash cans into our spot once we left....people were too lazy to move them, so our spot would be there when we got back.
  • Cipolla, that's so funny!
  • Oh - and here's something to make you smile -

  • Bahaha....  make sure you put on your red visor....
  • Urgh! So annoying - and you are completely right. Dude is just trying to get make more money. You should contact your state's attorney! At least get it on record in the event that this happens again.
  • In our complex we have 2 parking spots for each town home. People park in assigned spots all the time. Neighbors have come pounding on my door at 11 at night trying to find who is in their spot. We never know but they check every house until they find out who. I've decided that if anyone parks in my spot I will just park directly behind them and leave a note on their car stating when I will be ready to move my car again.

  • bahahahaha- you all make me smile.  I totally felt like Kathy Bates in Fried Green Tomatoes today - except I don't have a red visor with a bow.  :-P
