XP: Recommend your Crossover/SUV
DH & I are going to go test drive some cars in the next couple of weeks. We're looking at a crossover or small SUV, like the Chevy Equinox, Nissan Murano/Rogue or the Saturn Vue. Others we have in mind to drive are the Hyundai Santa Fe/Tuscon, Kia Sportage, Toyota Rav4.
Anyone have an opinion on these or other vehicles?

Re: XP: Recommend your Crossover/SUV
My parents have had a Santa Fe for years and love it. Very comfy, no issues at all.
We have a Land Rover LR2 and are very pleased with it. It does so well in the snow (we definitely tested it here this winter...we were the only car who could make it down the highway with over a foot of snow and there were expeditions, denalis, etc....lots of other bigger SUVs than us).
I have a Ford Escape. It has been a great little suv, no complaints actually. Runs great, great gas mileage and pretty roomy for a smaller vehicle too.
Funny though, i'm so looking forward to a car again! LOL
Hi!
Chiming in late, but I love love love my Acura RDX. It is awesome. Pricey because leather is standard and it is Honda's "luxury" brand, but it has been the best car ever. We bought in 2008.
We test drove a CRV before buying the Acura and really didn't like the console area because we felt like the shifter was in a weird place, did not have a center console etc. We also test drove a 4-runner/Rav 4 and were disappointed that the interiors were not very updated and little to no "power", no oomph. We test drove a Murano, too expensive for a Nissan IMHO, you'd be better off going for a nicer car like the Acura. We drove the Nissan Rogue, and felt it had a horrible blind spot over the driver's left shoulder. We also test drove the Pilot, it felt enormous and "minivanish".
We are Honda/Acura people. I can't offer any thoughts on Ford/Chevy/Hyundai etc but my sister has an Escape and really likes it, although it "got old quick". If you're concerned about resale value, depreciation etc., I would stick with Honda, Toyota, Acura etc. You lose a lot of value in the others just by driving it off the lot and they're not worth much on a trade. Consumer reports was a great resource for us.
Wow that was a lot of information! I really really really super duper love my car!
The Honda CRV, Toyota Rav4, and Subaru Forester are the ones I hear raves about most frequently. The 3 are pretty comparable, it generally comes down to people being "Toyota people," "Subaru people," etc.
We bought a certified pre-owned 2008 Subaru Forester in January, and love it. Part of it was that we could get a standard transmission from Subaru; nobody else did compact SUV's with manuals (except Jeep, but their gas mileage sucks). I also just felt really comfortable with the choice. The redesign in 2009 (and for the Outback in 2010) is awesome, but we were able to get a great deal on more upgrades by going with an '08. Subaru has some of the best crash-test ratings, they're reliable, the AWD handles snow really well... I highly recommend it.
