Can you identify this plant?

I don't know much about gardening/plants.  I'm going to dig this area up, and I'm wondering if I should keep this and replant it, I'm not sure what it is.

Thanks.

Re: Can you identify this plant?

  • It looks like a hosta. I'd definitely keep it. There are a lot of varieties of hostas and they are great shade plants.

Thanks - Do they get flowers?

  • Definitely a hosta. They're very hardy. They get a long stalk with a few purple flowers, but they're known more for their foliage.

Great, thanks.  I'll keep it then, I need some stuff like this for fillers.

  • Hosta, some get flowers and some don't.  I actually prefer the non blooming ones over the blooming ones.

Keep them, like PP said they are SO hardy and actually realy great looking, you can divide them up and move them around and they spread nicely..not like those horrible day lily's!

I actually cut the stalks of blooms off mine 'cause I prefer having just the foliage! I definitely agree that they are great plants and very easy to divide and transplant. I had a clump of them in my backyard and this spring I chopped them up into 11 separate (but quite small) plants and moved them to a different area. They have already filled in the whole bed, and it didn't cost me a thing!
