paragard?

Who has the paragard IUD? Experiences?

Thanks.

Re: paragard?

  • *raises hand*

I have it.  I got it in 2006 and yes it hurt getting inserted, just for about 10 seconds, actually made me tear up. I don't have kids. I spotted for 6 weeks after insertion and it eventually stopped. I have somewhat heavier periods and cramps but it's worth the convenience and peace of mind the IUD brings me. I have had no recent issues with it and I highly recommend it!

  • I have one. For about 3 years now. It was slightly painful at insertion but went away. What do you want to know about it? Just ask me.
  • I'm getting a Paraguard tomorrow, and I'm super nervous -- especially since I've been on the Pill for nine years! I'm still pretty young (23), so I'm worried that my skin will break out like crazy without the hormones, that I'll have cramps and long periods, and that I'll fall in that 0.7% of women who become pregnant with IUDs, and then have to deal with that whole mess!

Of course, as my friend pointed out, new things are always scary. I'm used to the Pill, for me it's my "normal," and in all honesty everything I'm worried about has either a VERY low risk of happening, or really not that big of a deal.

There's a great livejournal community to check out - they have all kinds of input regarding IUDs, both Mirena and Paraguard: http://community.livejournal.com/iud_divas/.

    Hope that helps!
