In my interesting vacation rental search, I came across a place in Hauula. Never heard of it. I realize that we've driven along that area when going between the windward side and the north shore... but, don't remember stopping anywhere along the way. What is in that area? Would it be a nice beach where we could swim?

Re: Hauula ?
I have stayed in these little cabins right next to this condo in your second link. It was many years ago and although the beach was small (especially at high tide), and steep at times,it was very sandy and some of the BEST snorkeling I've done on the islands. I really didn't expect that! We were there in May or April, can't remember exactly.
I'll try to find the link to the "cabins" if you're interested. We loved them. Nothing fancy but RIGHT on the beach and at the time, they were cheap. It was probably 5 or 6 years ago though. Perfect for a couple, the bedroom is surrounded by windows. Small living room, kitchenette and bath.
Although I haven't stayed or been in the condos, the building does look a little scary and run down when you see it ahead of you from the road. Could just be because it's right on the water and the salt and sea air rusts everything out. The pool was nice enough though and again, RIGHT on the beach!
Here's some of the cottages:

This is not the one we stayed at but right there where it was. I think there are 3 buildings (cottages) there each with 2 stories to rent. Maybe they all aren't for rent anymore. This one looks fun though! There really isn't much to do in the area but the drive in either direction is so beautiful, who cares! It's very quiet. We hardly ever saw anyone else. Even with the condos next door.
