do i need to protect tomatoes from critters?

a couple birds have apparently decided my strawberries are tasty, and have QC'd every last one of them for me.  the dogs are useless, instead of protecting my goodies, they merely engage the birds in staring contests.  so i was going to put up some netting around the strawberries this weekend, but i also have some tomatoes and bell peppers planted, and i wasn't sure if i should go ahead and put the netting aroudn those as well.

I would highly recommend protecting the tomatoes as well. I don't know about the birds, but when I tried to grow tomatoes the squirrels would take a big bite out of them JUST as they became ripe enough to pick. It drove me crazy!

  • I don't know about your dogs, but mine will eat all the tomatoes off the plants if I don't protect them!
