BR: Cloth diaper washing question

I have googled and googled and can't figure out the answer to my question, so I am hoping someone here can help!

I have an LG front loader and am currently using CD-friendly detergent to wash all our laundry including cloth diapers. I have a big bottle of Tide HE detergent that I bought right before getting my CDs and have not used it at all because I was afraid that the residue/enzymes from using it for our clothes would get on the CDs (even though the CDs would not be washed in it) and lead to rash or mess with the absorption of my prefolds. So, my question is, can I use the Tide when not washing CDs or should I only use one type of detergent that is ok for CDs and everything else?

Re: BR: Cloth diaper washing question

  • Not sure, but I wash our clothes with a different detergent than the baby's clothes & CDs and haven't had any issues yet.

  • you should be fine.  I use someone that isn't on the CD safe lists out there for our regular clothes and don't have issues.

although - when my MIL was visiting she did a couple of loads of laundry with Tide sport (what we wash DH's basketball team's jerseys in) and I know she probably used way more detergent than necessary but we did have issues in the CD loads immediately after her loads.  They wouldn't rinse clean (no bubbles).  I also wasn't happy with the CD detergent we were using at that time so it could be tough to say what the real issue was.  Since then I have just made it standard practice to run a "clean washer" cycle every once in a while and have switched to a different CD safe detergent.

  • we use Tide HE exclusively (ever since A was born) and have had no issues whatsover with her skin or anything :) for her diapers i fill the detergent half way to the 1 line. i always do an extra rinse at the end to make sure there isn't any build up

in fact if you check out the forums on diaperswappers a lot of moms will try every other detergent out there and have stink issues and then start using tide and wish they had tried it sooner :) not saying you need to change what you are doing...but you don't have to worry about using Tide for your own clothes if you want to use it!

  • Lovin' your new siggy pic...too cute!

We use four different detergents in our HE front loader machine.

    1) For CDs

    2) One for baby clothes

    3) One for our laundry

    4) One for my mom's massage business laundry (sheets, etc.)
