Squash vine borers

I discovered this evening that squash vine borers have infested my huge, verge of producing, yellow squash plant. I spent an hour picking off and killing eggs and trying to remove the worms I could find by slitting the stems. I know its just a matter of time before the plant is dead, I'm just hoping to prolong it long enough to get the 3 squash starting to grow big enough. I'm so bummed out though. I know they are a big problem in Texas, but I was hoping to escape since the garden beds are brand new. Boo hiss stupid bugs!
