I shoot a Pentax K10D. They don't make it anymore, but the K7 is the same price point and has similar features with the addition of video. It's comprable to a Canon 50D or Nikon d90. Its pretty limited for my purposes at this point, but for a hobbyist my opinion is that any DSLR with decent glass, that you take the time to learn how to use will produce awesome personal pics.
I shot the one of Maire with my Sigma 30mm 1.4. The Keller shot is older, but I'm betting I used my Pentax 50mm 1.8. I shoot in RAW and edit in Photoshop CS4.
