Is just pizza enough food ?

We are having DD's 1st birthday party on Sunday. It's at 2 o'clock, so not really lunch time. We're just ordering pizza's & having cupcakes. I also plan on making a veggie/dip tray & we're having a cookie monster theme, so there will be chocolate chip cookies too..Should I do a cheese & cracker platter or something else or is what I have sufficient ?

  • I think what you have is good, but if you wanted to something, I would say big green salad, always good with pizza.
  • Ditto the green salad. Garlic knots or some bread would also be nice.

Could you put out some buffalo wings as well? They're easy to make yourself, or you can order them from the pizza place or get them from a supermarket (either ready-made or frozen).

  • Agree with the pps.  Here's an idea for cupcakes I saw the other day:

    cookie monster cupcakes

  • At 2pm, I'm not expecting to be served lunch at a party. I would definitely have already eaten.  (Of course, unless, the invite said lunch.  Then I only maybe would have eaten already Stick out tongue)

I wouldn't do the pizza.  I'd just have the veggies and desserts.

Though, is the party starting at 2:00 p.m. and the food coming at 4:00 p.m.?

  • I'd do a salad insstead of the veg tray and add some fruit.
  • The food will be there when the guests arrive..Alot of our guests are traveling 45 mins to an hour , maybe more because its Nascar race weekend  ( oh boy !) so traffic will be heavy..So I think having something substantial to feed them is a good idea..I always eat lunch later than noon on weekends, so I figure others to do and will be looking for more than just apps. Plus pizza is so easy & cheap , its really no big deal to have it..I just hope it gets eaten..We are ordering 10 pizza's !    I think I will add a salad & some fruit too !

I think what you have sounds very sufficient for a child's birthday party if you have parents and lots of young kiddos coming.  The cookie monster theme sounds very cute.

  • Definately add a big salad, and maybe some breadsticks for someone who just wants some salad and bread and the other nibblies.

  • I'm planning a cookie monster for my DS's first birthday too & there's really not much out there... everything is Elmo.  Can you share some ideas?  Oh, and I think what you have set already is fine.  People should've eaten lunch already by 2

about 30 adults and 8 kids...i have a fear of running out of food, so i think we'll be safe with 10 pizza's ?

I know, it was very hard to find cookie monster stuff...I am pretty much making everything myself..Check out these blogs for ideas :

I made cookie monster party hats, similar to the ones in the second blog...My friends aunt makes cakes, so she is making cookie monster cupcakes with the eyes and cookie mouth. I am making blue tissue paper pom-poms to hang up  ( very very simple, just google it, you will get steps of how to make them ).  I bought a 2 foot plush cookie monster that is the centerpiece and I am making the cookie monster punch cups shown in the blogs also. Also having the kids make the cookie monster puppets shown in the second blog & then everything else ( tablecloths, napkins, plates, balloons ) is just shades of cookie monster blue with some brown accents, like brown cake napkins..I also had a special tutu made for DD that is blue, brown & white, so cute..She also has a cookie monster bib for when she smashes her cake !   Hope that helps to give you some good ideas !

  • thanks for all the ideas!  let us know how it turns out!  hopefully u take some good pics.
  • I think what you have planned is plenty.  I've been to kid parties which just featured pizza and cake, and nobody seemed to mind!  You're going all out for this, and I think your guests will be satisfied with the effort you're making.  Sounds fun!
