1st Anniversary

I was just wondering what others are doing for their frist wedding anniversary? The hubby's and mine last year has been very hectic, with buying the house, house fire, I los my job, and getting a new one that he totally didn't think about planning to do something for our one year. So please some ideas? I would like to do something out of the oridinary.

Re: 1st Anniversary

  • Sounds like you've had a very busy year.  Hope things are back on a positive track.

I got M concert tickets to see Muse to stick with paper.  During the day we're either going for a bike ride or going to check out a golf course we've never played.  Dinner we're going out to our favorite steak place.

  • I'm getting my husband gift certificates to his favorite beer store.  lol.

I didn't think of tickets of gift cert to a place for stay with the tradition of paper. And yes we did have a very busy year, but what does not kill us just makes us stronger. Geeked

  • My dear, dear husband wants to go visit his parents.

I am crying on the inside.  We just spent a week with them at Christmas.  They are lovely, lovely people but they don't like to do anything.  They have horses and a neurotic dog so they just care for these animals all day.  I was trying to organize trips to the city or even just to the town for a drink but no one wanted to do anything.  DH even just sits around and plays solitaire on his iphone.  They also don't really eat, so it's not like we have meals together.  Why do we have to go back again now??

Wow, that seems kind of...how do I put this nicely.....boring! I'm sorry about that. We live by our parents so we see them all the time. So I would like to get away from all of the family and let it just be us. Last year we went to Amish Country, but don't want to do that again right now -- since we just did it.

  • I actually sort of wish they lived closer.  I wouldn't mind visiting with them for a day or having them over to our place for dinner.  And I would love to have relatives nearby when we start having kids!

But for a week's vacation?  Seriously, I pack five books when we go to visit and have usually read most of them by the time we get back.  I can read a book a day there.

  • We're going on a weekend trip to St. Louis (had to be somewhere within a few hours drive since we'll be out of town the week before for my sister's wedding).  We're going to see a Cardinals game and some other random stuff.  Probably go out to a nice dinner, take some champagne and our cake, etc.  I dont know what I'm getting him for a present yet - something small - we have a $50 limit since we have so much going on this year.
  • Just last night I finally made the first step at plans/present. I talked to my cake lady about making us a small 6" anniversary cake. Maybe we'll go out for a nice dinner. As far as presents.... stumped.

  • I just booked our hotel for Savannah in late June. The week of our actually anniversary is blacked out due to a conversion so we had to push our trip back a few weeks. But, we are staying at the East Bay Inn, which looks amazing.

As for the paper part, I got DH tickets to a baseball game, and he got me tickets to a concert.

Yah, I love having our family close -- but I guess I would love not having them so close. Becasue we do see them all the time, and at times it feels like his family pries into our life alot. But oh well.....

  • I was thinking of going to NYC. I have always wanted to go there, but it's not that far from where we are. (we are in cleveland, oh)
  • We're going to Bermuda. It's a little extravagent for a 1st anniversary but we haven't gone on a vacation since our honeymoon, and we want to travel a lot before we have kids
  • That sounds like fun, we would love to do something like that. However, we don't have the money to do something big like that.

So do we. I wanted to go on a cruise this year, but we decided to stay in the US. Maybe next year.

We're paying for it with the money we got for our wedding. We honestly haven't spent it on anything but this trip. I'm sure we should save it for a house or a couch or something practical but this is more fun

  • We're probably going to go to a nearby town to do the B&B thing with winery tours. Or just go into "the city" for the weekend. LOL Now that we've moved 30 minutes out of town, DH considers a weekend in Austin to be a vacation! I have no thoughts on the gift--hadn't really thought on it yet.  I know he's been thinking on it cause one day he asked if  paper was the only tradition.
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • Since we're bicoastal, we'll be celebrating a month late. I'll be taking a poll from you ladies to see how your plans played out and using it to my advantage to plan something (local) for us.

JD - My bday is next week and DH is coming home for a visit for Memorial Day weekend and that's when we're celebrating. As a spin-off conversation of yesterday's "daring" thread, he's planning something extreme for us to do together for my birthday. Perhaps you could do something like that to make it memorable. Test your boundaries!

  • We're gonna head out to enjoy the warm California sunshine. :)

My friend just came from there -- wish I could go would be better than this poopie Ohio weather

  • We want to try and take a trip or getaway each year.

This year we are going to Door County, WI for the weekend. We are staying in a B&B, wine tasting, antique shopping, hanging out outside, etc.

We are staying close to home because we have a lot of other international travel this year!

  • Another bicoastal one here.

We stayed at a B&B while he was visiting earlier this month and got a massage...pretty sure that's going to have to suffice for our anniversary this year.  Good chance I won't see him until July or so.

  • We finally got the weekend all planned. We are going to a B&B which is also giving us vouchers to go to the henry Ford Museum, and to take a tour of the Ford Factory. It is pretty cheap, and the hubby loves cars so he was so excited when i told him about that :)
  • Sorry to pop in later on the topic!  I too have not decided what to do for our anniversary.  We are going to the beach for a long weekend with his parents and sister and her boyfriend the middle of June, and then we have 2 big car show events coming up for us the end of June and beginning of July.  So we actually arent going on a vacation or trip on our own this year.. we had a lot of things come up this year (me having ankle surgery one of them) and all the bills and all that we just didnt have the money this year to do a big vacation this summer.  I hope to next year or within the next few years we can do more travelling before we want to have kids.  I dont know that we will do anniversary gifts... I know we are getting a small cake from our baker as part of our wedding cake price for our anniversary... I thought maybe I could make dinner similar to what we had at our reception and watch our dvd and just relax together.... have to talk it over with DH some more.

You will LOVE the Henry Ford Museum and the Ford Rogue Factory tour. DH and I went to Detroit for our Honeymoon.. we are BIG car fans.  We mostly went to see the Chrysler museum and headquarters in Auburn Hills, but we also did the Ford stuff and LOVED it.  We had a great time out there and want to do it again sometime!!!!  Enjoy!
