any gardeners?

This is my second year with a full veggie garden.  Before that I just grew herbs, strawberries and tomatoes on my patio.

Last year I just kind of threw some starts and seeds into the ground and waited to see what happened.  This year is kind of the same - the garden was a complete mess 3 weeks ago.  Luckily my parents bought an electric tiller so we were able to till and amend w/ compost in one day.  (last year DH did the whole 900 sq ft. by hand!!!).

But I'm looking forward to it!

so far I have planted:

Strawberries(lots), onions (red, white, and yellow + shallots), potatoes, peppers (hot and bell), tomatoes (4), spinach, radish, carrots, various summer and winter squash, eggplant, peas, beans, rhubarb, artichoke, and by request from MH - watermelon and corn.  I think we will also do pumpkins like last year.

Last year was unusually warm so everything did really well - hope that wasn't a fluke and my peppers, watermelon and eggplant do ok again this year.

  • Ha ha ha!!!  Robbie - we posted the exact same topic at the same time!  Great minds think alike - or we're both bored at work at 4:30 Wink.

I'm sooo jealous about your electric tiller!  Manually working the dirt is quite the (back) workout!  I'd love to see pics!
