Charting Question

I know there are several women on here who use charting, so I have a quick question.

I went of birth control a few months ago, so my cycles are starting to work themselves out. My question is what do you count as your day one? Yesterday I had some slight spotting (as even barely pink discharge). The actual flow didn't start until today. So which day is the technical Day 1?

Thanks!

Re: Charting Question

  • I'm pretty sure that (according to FF and TCOYF) CD1 would be the first day of actual flow.  Spotting wouldn't really count.

Agreed. I'm also a few months off of bcp, this past month I spotted for 3 days before actual flow. I counted the actual flow day as cd1.

Yes  You can have spotting any time for various reasons. If you were to count spotting it may not actually be menses and result in surprise pregnancy (if you're avoiding). Just note any spotting and start you're new cycle at the first day of red flow.

  • Definitely the first day of actual red flow.
  • Though I'm not TTC - I've read  "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler

    - It goes into the Fertility Awarness Method - which can be used for conceiving AND natural birth control.

One of my friends used FAM as natural birth control and then used it when she was TTC - She got pregnant immediately.  I've heard lots of people have had success with FAM
