Glen Allen, Va

Hello everyone. My Fiance and I are getting married in 42 days! He just graduated from Penn State and got a job in Glen Allen, Virginia. Is anyone familiar with the area? We need to find an apartment to rent and I am looking for a job- possibly in a cool cafe if anyone knows of any :) Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Glen Allen, Va

  • Glen Allen overall is a pretty large area. Do you know where you want to live specifically? Are you looking for more a country or busy suburban feel? There are a lot of great apartments. If you want to be right in the middle of all the shopping and restaurants then I would recommend The Flats at West Broad Village or Madison at Spring Oak. Feel free to PM me with any other questions and best wishes on your wedding!

I just moved here in January and looked at tons of places.  I'd be happy to email you if you want to let me know what places specifically you're looking (or even just what type of neighborhood).  My email is courtlyn at gmail dot com.  I know how stressful it is moving states (I've done it three times in the past three years), so please let me know if I can be of any help.  Good luck!
  • Hey! I don't know much about apartments but I do know there are some nice ones on Mayland Dr. As for cafe's try Cafe Couture...welcome
  • Will he be working in the Innsbrook area (big business park) or some other area of Glen Allen? As others have said, Glen Allen is sort of a wide area and includes Short Pump which is a big suburban area of Richmond as well as more rural areas.  I used to live in The Gardens at Twin Hickory and highly recommend them...easy access to Innsbrook as well as 295/64 without having to get on broad street or deal with "short pump" traffic unless you want to go into Short Pump which is less than 5 minutes away. Traffic in short pump can be bad especially on weekends.

The suburbs of Richmond which include Glen Allen is a typical shopping area with lots of big box stores and chains. There are some cafes and mom and pop places tucked, but they are the exception rather than the rule. Your local cafe on every corner is going to be more the "Fan" area of Richmond or downtown...still only 20-30 minutes on the Interstate from most of Glen Allen.

Welcome to the area...Richmond is pretty big, but with a small town feel at the same time.
