A Pipe Broke and it's OURS

So my cousin-in-law was out front near our street smoking a butt at our party today when she came running out back to announce that water was bubbling up from our lawn and we were like, What?!  So we headed out front and it was all over our front lawn, and streaming down the street!  Eugene called the town and was told that if the pipe was broken from our yard to the street, it's the town's responsibility to fix it but if the pipe is broken from our yard to the house, it's our responsibility.  Guess where the pipe is broken?  And do you even want to guess how much it's going to cost to fix it??

Eugene jokingly said to my dad, "I guess I'm gonna have to take back the bike I just bought."  My MIL overheard him say that and privately mentioned to him later, "Do you really need to return your bike?  Are you unable to afford the cost of fixing this?  I will give you the money."  He laughed and hugged his mom, and told her he was just kidding and we're ok but thank you.  She's so sweet.  =)

Anyway, we're both really, really bummed ... we wanted a new and expanded driveway.

  • OH NO!!!!!

I wonder how the heck that happened, could've been a tree root I suppose.

Oh, now I feel bad.....I can't fight you after hearing this!  LOL!

  • Ugh, that sucks, Amye! I'm sorry :( I'm so glad we have a "meter to main" insurance program through our water department . . . it's $60 a year and will cover damage/repairs to the water pipe on our property. A small price to pay considering what it does cost to fix.
  • That really stinks. Really sweet sentiment from your MIL, though. I don't even want to know how much that is going to cost! Yuck.
  • Oh no...that totalaly stinks.   Did it do any damage to your house?  That was so nice of Dh's mom to offer to help.  I sure hope you guys are able to get it fixed without having to spend too much money.

  • That stinks! I just got the letter in the mail about getting the insurance for it but wasn't sure if it was worth it. I wonder how common it is to have problems? I wasn't going to do it, but I might have to reconsider!
  • Oh no Amye!!!  That stinks!  Are you sure that its the pipe to the house?   GL!  Does that mean you don't have any water?
  • We don't know why it happened.  I don't think it's to do w/ a tree root but I guess we don't really *know*.  It didn't ruin our front yard, thank God - not yet, anyway.  We have to have a huge hole dug up in our front yard to fix the pipe.  Someone is supposed to be coming today to survey the damage and hopefully get it fixed tomorrow.  Which means tomorrow we'll have no water.  Eugene wants me to take Alyssa to a friend's house if I can.  I just can't believe the misfortune.  Blah.
