Gary and I recently moved into our house and we wanted to have a housewarming party/party after he takes his med boards....We thought of maybe doing a crawfish boil... but it's kinda messy..... Do you think a crawfish boil is too messy?.... Would just apps and cocktails be better/easier?  what do yall think?  Would post this on the entertaining boards, but i'm sure the national ladies have NO idea about crawfish boils... thanks, y'all!

I really think it depends on what type of party you want. If you want a more formal get together a crawfish boil is NOT the way to go. But most people enjoy a boil and expect a mess. If you do a boil you'll probably want to do some extra food though too.
Instead would you consider having it catered? I figure that would cost as much as a boil. You don't really need serving people, just easier. If you do heavy apps you'll probably be cooking when everyone first arrives. So pros and cons to both.
Either way you go congrats on the big accomplishments, you both deserve a party.

ditto, MT.  Crawfish boils are fun, but they are messy and more of a casual thing.
