how can I recreate this look on a budget?

we are planning our son's 1st bday and want an area for the little ones, its a candyland theme and I like the look but do not want to spend $18-$20 on the candy pillows

  • I'd hit up the fabric store and look for novelty prints.  You might be able to find one that has candy logos.

Is that a daybed for outdoors?  You could certainly save money by skipping it, because your 1yo isn't gonna have any idea that it exists.  Any other children there might just crawl on it for a minute or two.  You know kids don't need elaborate things to have a good time.

  • Super cute, skip it. Your child won't care, and other kids won't want to take a nap.

Keep it simple.  I waaaaay overthought my dd's first birthday and she was so over the whole thing she took a long nap and missed most of it.

If you want candy inspired items, look for fun fabrics. Use candy itself as decor then send it home with your guests.   I love the colors because they are fun.  But do not lose your mind making it matchy- just have fun things for the older kids to DO..they won't care about the decor.

I don't mean to burst your bubble...I know how it is with the 1st birthday... but you will have to do this every year --save your energy for the years when you have to have bouncy machines and paint ball tournaments...gah!!!

  • At Staples they sell iron-on transfer paper.  I have had luck with words and logos and smaller images.  Just find the logo and print it out!  You can just buy some bright fabrics (if you can sew) or inexpensive and colorful pillows then iron it on. That would save you a lot of money!
  • you could use bye and fabric paint to re create the pillows...I don't know how much work you are willing to put into it though.

I would just do what others have said and decorate with actual candy
