Recommend Some Products For Me

I'm trying to transition to green living slowly and I figured one of the best, and economical, ways to do it is based off of when my current products run out.  I'm low on diswashing detergent, facial cleanser, and toilet tissue.

I've seen on here before HM receipes for dishwashing detergent, but I don't think I'm there yet.  Especially with tweeking the receipe depending on the water.

Regarding my skin care, I currently use Lush.  I've gone onto that website the ranks the toxicity of the product, but my facial cleanser wasn't on there.  If any one is familiar with their products, I use angels on bare skin.  I have dry skin and I need something that gently exfoliates as well.

As far as toilet tissue, as long as its not like sand paper and is strong, I don't think I'm picky.

Any suggestions?  Feel free to also point me to a site that could offer suggestions as well.

 Thanks

  • For tp I like Marcal Small Steps (switching was a big deal for us - but this stuff is pretty soft for recycled!)

For the dishwasher I like Ecover .

For my face I use the oil clensing method.  You can add a little baking soda to the oils as a great way to exfoliate.

Those are all good places to start!

  • if you have a Trader Joe's near you, their recycled TP is great, and pretty cheap too.

i've found that the softest TP is Scott's Naturals, i don't think it's 100% recycled though, if i remember correctly it's about 60% (don't quote me on that)  but it's a good start for the transitional period from Charmin to recycled.

i haven't run out of my face wash yet, so i haven't switched over in that area yet.

I've been using Seventh Generation dishwasher liquid, which works well, but after i bought it i noticed that it still has SLS in it, so i'll be switching that again once i've finished this bottle.

I use olive oil as my moisturizer - it never occurred to me that it was cleaning as well! It's great as a moisturizer though, so there's no need for a separate product. I've found that massaging gently after applying really helps it absorb into the skin (whereas if I just apply and run my face can look a little shiny).

We actually use Scott now and we do have a TJ near us. Thanks for the other suggestions.
