What to use in my yard for mosquitoes having a cookout

my neighbor explained that people can't spray their yards which I'm not sure is true but is their anything else that can be used to keep mosq and bugs to a minimum for 1 day

Re: What to use in my yard for mosquitoes having a cookout

  • i've heard that lavender works, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. I just bought a plant this weekend so it's not big enough to act as any kind of repellant yet.

You could also get citronella candles or those tiki torches. They usually work. Also, get rid of any standing water, as this is a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

  • Off and Cutter both make sprays that you can spray in your yard (or around your patio) to act as a repellant. I've used the Cutter brand in conjunction with the tiki torches and citronella candles with good results.

There are plants that repel mosquitos. You can always buy a few and put them in containers around your deck (patio, backyard) to help.

  • Off has those new clip on fans that repel mosquitoes.  Citronella candles work well and I've heard of people having luck with the carbon dioxide traps, but those can be expensive.

  • Bonide makes a mosquiter repeller that lasts a few days, Mosquito Beater.   It's natural, too.

I like the one that attaches to a hose.

  • If you go to your local garden center, there is a spray made from garlic that repels mosquitoes.  We used it before parties at our last house with great effect.  It lasts for a few days so as long as it doesn't rain, we would spray the night before.
  • I have a friend whose husband developed a product called "My mosquito deleter". It sounds very promising! Not only does it kill the mosquito larvae but it's also environmentally friendly.
  • Your neighbor's an idiot :)

Our last house was a wooded lot in a VERY wooded neighborhood.  Going outside in the backyard was like going camping - good grief, the bugs would pick you up and carry you away.  Get some of this - several brands make something like it and you can get it at WM/HD/Lowe's.  It does a great job eliminating almost everything and lasts 4-6 weeks.

Just an FYI, those only work if you're standing still.  They create a repellant bubble/cloud around you by blowing the chemical with a fan, but if you leave the bubble/cloud, it'll take another 15 mins or so for the bubble to build up in the new area.

Also kinda scary if ya think about it Tongue Tied
