Help me learn how to seed save

Ok, so I've gone BSC buying Annuals this year. I love them, but can't help but feel the sting of depleting my pocketbook for flowers I will only enjoy one season. For those of you who have had success saving seeds, can you share with me the process? I like to give it a try and see it I can recreate my beautiful garden from scratch next year.

Thanks!

Re: Help me learn how to seed save

  • Which annuals have you planted?
  • What about buying packets of seeds & starting those before you try to save your own seed?

From the little bit I've read, saving seeds from flowers can be a PITA.  Of course, it depends on the flower (sunflowers would be easy, pansies would be hard).

  • I still have pansies, these seem to be the mysterious annuals that won't die. Not that I want them to, it's just thrown a kink in my plans!

I'm in love with my double yellow begonias

I also have a purple and white fuchia, which south of here is a perennial, but an annual here (zone 7) Does anyone know if this will over winter well indoors?

Tomorrows project is a mixed box of Carlos lantana and calibracoa.

I also have three hostas needing a permanent home..busy, busy, busy.
