...have an above ground pool? Or is that totally ghetto?
We've seen a few above ground pools in the sale papers, and I am kind of tempted to get one. I'm not expecting to throw pool parties or anything, but it'd be nice to come home and soak in the pool after a crappy work day.
Re: Anyone...
We have one. It's not my first choice but when we moved here, we only wanted to rent and the house we rent came with it...
That being said, I think it is more of a PITA to clean and take care of then an inground pool. Also, it is so expensive to run and clean and maintain so keep that in mind too. It needs to run at least 12 hours a day... the water burns out of it very quickly too... haha
A co-worker/friend has one and doesn't like it. She says it's a PITA-- the water gets a lot warmer than a in-ground, so not only is it not as refreshing, but bacteria and alge grows a lot quicker. She has a normal pump and vacuum for it, but still has to clean it a lot.
Regardless of that, keep in mind there are additional costs- the higher utility bill to run the pump/vacuum, buying chemicals every month, general upkeep.
12 hours a day?!?! Whoa baby! We only have to run our in ground for 4 hours a day- I can't imagine what that does to your electrical bill!
Oh thanks, Jess! I didn't know it would need to run that many hours a day, that is not ideal at all.
An in-ground pool would be amazing, but that is definitely not in the budget at the moment, lol.
ETA: Erin, you have such a good point about the warmth/bacteria. I am so glad I asked this, hearing different opinions really opens my eyes to the things I completely overlooked.

Yeah, that is another thing I forgot to add... The bacteria and alge grow super fast. We were only running the filters like 8 hours but we couldnt keep up with the growth so when we had the pool specialists come out they suggested at least 10-12 hours a day. Plus all the chemicals all the time. It is much better now that it runs like that but it is a killer on the light bill. We run it from 9pm to 9am (our electric plan is that as well) and then 24 hours on the weekends.. It's just so stupidly expensive..

Jacuzzi is just a name brand of a hot tub. You can not turn the heat on any hot tub/spa.
Yeah...I thought I was special and just made that up! lol
Tayrousso---I am sure that has a lot less maintenance chemical and electricity wise...maybe that will tied you over till you can do a pool?
Last Summer I helped some friends set theirs up and it was such a PITA!
The backyard was at an incline, so we had to level it out and get rid of all the rocks. Then, we had to lay tarps down and pour sand over them to help cushion the bottom. Three months later a rock made its way up through the tarps and put a hole in the bottom.
It was a total waste of time and money.
