agave nectar. mercola vs wholesome sweeteners

I had posted on my blog about the article by Mercola which basically was a con against agave nectar and the wholesome sweeteners people posted a comment with a link to their article which was a rebuttal to the mercola piece. I find both interesting and am not sure who to believe? thoughts??

Re: agave nectar. mercola vs wholesome sweeteners

  • Sure. I guess.

Here's the deal though... my DH has gout (nasty business, that) and insanely high triglycerides.

We went from doctor to doctor  to doctor trying to get the gout sorted out, to no avail...  no doctor ever told us that the triglycerides and gout could be caused BY THE SAME THING.

    What?

    Fructose.

The body metabolizes fructose in a really messed-up way.  It causes all kinds of problems.

No matter how organically it's farmed, agave nectar is still fructose-heavy, and it will still be metabolized by our bodies in these really messed up ways, and will still cause problems like my DH's.

Lots of info about this here:

(lecture by a UC professor of pediatric endrocronology about how sugar is metabolized. fascinating. long.)
