Vacations with friends?

Do you take vacations with friends at all? Our wedding was the first time we'd gone to a foreign country with friends, and we LOVED it. Now, I feel like it's my preferred way to travel. I really want to do something like that again!

Re: Vacations with friends?

  • Our last trip to Vegas (and to the outskirts of the city, Mojave Desert and Hoover Dam) we went with our neighbours/good friends and we had alot of fun. We also do the occasional camping excursions with the same couple. It is so great when you can find great travelling companions.
  • Our vacations are usually taken to visit friends from back home, so I guess we've vacationed with friends before!  We're taking another couple along with us to Lollapalooza this year and I think it's going to be a blast.

  • I love vacations with friends. It started in high school... we would go on trips to Florida for spring break. A group of close friends always stayed together. I was lucky enough to have a BF whose grandparents managed condos on the beach in Carlsbad, CA. We spent a couple of summers there, too.

It got better in college... I dated a guy in CA who had a friend whose parents had a second home in Lake Tahoe. All of his high school friends got together over Christmas/New Years. They were so fun.

After graduating college, a bunch of us continued doing trips through our 20s. All of them were in the US... no place fancy... just to have time together and laugh.

... then, we started hatching out kids... um, now what?

I would love to have enough money to rent a huge place and just have an open door policy. Invite everyone. Those that can come, will. It seems like once people have kids, the scheduling and cost becomes a barrier. I can't make the schedule perfect... but, if I could take care of the cost, I would.

Right now, all of my best girlfriends wish we could have a girls' trip. We can manage 2 of us getting together, but never the whole group. Boohoo. I miss friend trips.

If I win the lottery, I'm flying all of my IRL friends and all of my nestie friends on a Hawaii beach trip. If I win the HGTV Dream Home, you'll be on your own for airfare, but will have a free place to stay.

My stepmom still gets together for a weekend trip with her 4 best girlfriends from high school (no kids/Hs) once a year.  They love it!  If you can make it happen, you should totally do it.

Also, it's not as fun as Hawaii, but if I win the HGTV Green Home you'll all have a place to stay in Maryland.  Wheeee! :)

  • For me, it depends on the trip.  Like trips to HI or somewhere relaxing and romantic I prefer to just be MH and I, but fun trips like CA or Vegas I LOVE to go with friends.  In fact, we are going to Catalina next weekend with a group of friends and I'm so excited!

  • Sometimes - I use to do a girl trip with my BFF every year but now she is a poor grad student.  We went to her fam's cabin in Tahoe a couple of times as a couples trip and that was really fun, but now's she single so I think we got left off the invite list...haha.

DH's friends are all married and he tries to get them interested in trips all the time but they aren't into it.  We couldn't even get them together enough to take a day trip to a baseball game last summer when we were out there visiting.

We have went camping with another couple a few times and that has been fun but when they kept bringing up a houseboat trip we declined because I think the guy 1/2 of the couple would annoy the crap out of me for any extended amount of time.

I have just now gotten DH to buy into the fact that we don't have to feel guilty for going on a yearly vacation (rather than going to visit the ILs 1+ times a year).

  • I think it would be fun to vacation with friends.  Besides the wedding and a mini-reunion here or there, I haven't had much opportunity to do that.  Now that we are in Europe, it would be awesome to travel with friends.  The only problem is the friends we'd like to travel with don't live here.  Sad
  • I much rather prefer going on vacations with friends!  Infact, we're going to Florida/Disney World and then a cruise with a group of friends, in September.  A trip with friends is my preferred way of travel.
