Vista: "Out of Memory on Line 29"

I use both IE and FF on my laptop with Vista. Never any problem, until now. I clicked over to the tabs I have open in IE, two of them, and there's an error message that says, "Out of Memory on Line 29". The only thing I can click is OK, but as soon as I click it, it disappears and then comes right back. I can't X out of the error message, or X out of IE, can't right click to close, or even Ctrl Alt Delete.

WTF do I do now?

I've never wanted to blow up something more than I've wanted to blow up this stupid Vista program.

Re: Vista: "Out of Memory on Line 29"

  • DH just had this very same thing happen tonight! But it is not just Vista because this is an older laptop running Windows XP. Ctrl Alt Delete worked for me. You weren't on Facebook by any chance were you? when this happened?

  • Yep, sure was!
  • I am guessing it is a FB issue then. It did this to DH last night and again tonight, when he was on FB.

  • I'd say stop using IE...but that's just me...
  • Facebook drains alot of memory on a computer especially if you play games such as Mafia Wars. Castle Age or any of the other little games you can on Facebook. Hit Control Alt and Del and choose task manager.  Close any uneccessary programs running in the background.  Then for kicks and giggles do normal surfing of the net leaving task manager open and visable.  Watch how much resourses your computer uses.

Then go to Facebook and watch the drainning REALLY begin.  The memory error usually happens when virtual memory a PC has reserved for specific tasks is used up or there is an HTML error on the site your visiting.  Best way to solve it short term is the above recomendation.  Long term would be a memory upgrade and a cleaning up of the hard drive of unessesary programs.  A PC runs at optimum speed when the hard drive is about 50% full or less.
