diet changing and tummy troubles

It's been nearly two years since I really changed my diet, adding in a lot more veggies and whole grains and I'm eating quite a bit less meat. I had mild problems with digestion and discomfort I thought would eventually work itself out after my body had adjusted. Well, it still hasn't gone away, in fact it's gotten worse. I don't know if it's diet related anymore or if it's something more like IBS, I have discomfort and TMI stuff nearly all the time now. Has anyone else experienced ongoing tummy problems after making good diet changes? I feel like I'm being punished for eating healthier. :-(

My doctor had me eliminate dairy for a couple weeks, that didn't help at all. I think I might try eliminating wheat for a while to see if maybe it's a wheat intolerance. Any other ideas? Natural remedies you'd recommend? I already take a probiotic.

Re: diet changing and tummy troubles

  • From personal experience, i'd take all dairy out for a week or a couple and see what happens.  If that doesn't improve things, then i'd see an allergist.  Allergies can show up any time.

  • Oh I feel for you!Sad

After going vegetarian I figured out I was casein (milk protein) and gluten intolerant. I had always had stomach issues but they got worse over time. After eliminating both I feel so much better!. I have been vegan and gluten free now for about five years. Some other common food intolerances are soy and corn. I found a gluten free and vegan group on yahoo that helped me considerably as I made the adjustment.

Best of luck to you! Smile

  • I had the same problems show up a few years ago and after seeing doctors for 2 years found out I was intolerant to corn products, gluten intolerant, and lactose intolerant. I'm actually going back on gluten this summer so I can be tested for celiac. It's amazing how much better you can feel. GL!
  • It could be allergies.  I found that drinking hot tea or hot lemon water each day helps since I switched to a more vegatarian diet.
