What's Your "Ask A. . ." Category?

I've noticed on several of the national boards, they do an "Ask A ___" question/answer session fairly regularly.  (For example, "Ask a Canadian" or " Ask a Mormon".)

Do you have an unusual area of expertise (not necessarily job-related) that would be interesting for an "Ask A ____" series?  What would it be?

  • Hmmm...  I know about music lessons and math.  That's about it.

  • Jail release attorney.  I can tell you all about what happens when you get a DWI (or other offense), get arrested, and how you get out of jail.
  • I'm pretty reliable when it comes to matters of Protestant Christianity/the Bible. If I don't know the answer, I can always have it in a matter of minutes with a text to DH. He's the real expert and (beyond just being raised in the church and spiritually/Biblically active) my knowledge comes from discussing with him and reading what he writes. His particular areas of expertise are eschatology (his masters thesis), angelology/demonology (his doctoral thesis), and the different standard interpretations of Biblical ideas (Protestant & Catholic equally).

I'm mostly just full of random trivia and certain TV references (I can tell you anything ever about Friends, and I'm pretty up on Will & Grace, Mad About You, Golden Girls, Designing Women and probably others I've seen a million times on Lifetime). I don't think either of those counts for much.

    This is so true.

I'll add I know a ridiculous amount about the food industry.  If you ever want to know what is in any product and if you should eat it or not, I'll let you know.  Whether organic or non-organic is best depends on the product.  I also know what restaurants are good and bad around town.  My mom knows every chef in Austin :)

I absolutely do not want to know any of this! I'm afraid it would ruin eating for me.

I am filled with tons of random information on nearly any topic.

  • I like Sea of Shoes, and I can't believe her collection considering how old she is, but once I started following her mom's blog as well, I have doubts! They are almost identical!

Thanks for asking!  Here are some of the classes that I have taught/can teach:

    -Nutrition (nutrition and cooking)

-Food Science (why does the stuff happens that does when you cook a food)

    -Preparation for Parenting

    -Child Dev.

-Individual & Family Life (relationships, marriage, life planning)

    -Fashion Design

-Consumer Economics (economics for everyday life)

    -Interior Design

There are more that are spin offs or compilations of the above but that's an example of the variety of stuff.  I wouldn't want to teach any other subjects besides what I teach.  I have GREAT subjects. Big Smile

  • Financial Aid. Exciting huh?
  • I seem to know a little about a lot of things.....or perhaps it is because I am old.  :)

    For topics I know deeply:

    Almost anything related to printing

    Invitation/Stationery Etiquette

    Divorce

Dealing with an alcoholic- I hesitated putting this down, but on the other hand, it isn't a topic people want to discuss.  If any one was ever in need I would want them to know they could PM me.

  • I would also be able to help on anything geeky, like Chicklit. Joss Whedon shows, video games and indie comics are all things I like and know a bit about.

Also, I could answer questions about Photoshop, Printmaking (Silkscreen, letterpress, lithography, etching), and any questions you might have about going to art school.

  • ohhhhhhhh I got one!

I have watched every episode of The Office and could probably answer just about any question you have about that tv show...

    My skills are invaluable.

  • hmmm...things you could ask me about:

~ star trek: almost any movie or series but i'm less knowledgeable about "deep space nine" because it's my least favorite

~ being a teacher, elementary level

~ how to become debt-free: i discovered i have a knack for personal finance

~ live theatre: name a job in the theatre, and i've done it some time during the last 22 years

~ how to figure out how to get from one place to another when you've never been there (ex. when you travel -- how do you get from the airport to the cruise port, how do you get from your hotel to a certain restaurant, how to take the train from boston to plymouth and then use local bus transportation to get around [which bus, exact change needed?, time schedule, etc.])
