just a little bit nervous

We're attempting our first big car trip (well, first time in the car ever) tomorrow night. After DH gets home from work, we're planning on leaving the city and driving up to our ILs in Sodus, NY (close to Syracuse). Do any of you fellow mom's have any tips or suggestions? We're going to be driving during Freddie's evening (sometimes he can be fussy) routine, so he won't have his regular bath and "rocking" to sleep. I'm going to have bottles ready so if he gets hungry we can feed him that way (without having to pull over to nurse). I really hope he takes well to the car, but I'm also preparing myself for a very tough trip.

Any advice?

Re: just a little bit nervous

  • He might just sleep.  B. cries when the car stops at red lights or in traffic, but once we get going she usually falls asleep pretty quickly.  Are you going to sit in the back with him?  I did for a while.

Tracy, that's too funny that she cries at red lights - I thought Sasha was the only one! DH kept joking that she likes going fast so much, she won't be allowed to drive a car till she's 21!

Liz, my kiddo is very similar. If it's close to her nap/bedtime, she'll fall asleep in the car (but usually not until we get on the highway). Have a couple of bottles ready, I'd sit in the back with her for longer trips, just so that she knows we're right there. Maybe have a couple of his toys, something to cuddle for him. And breathe! I'm sure it'll be fine. Have fun at the ILs'.

  • thanks!! yea, either my husband or I will be in the back seat with him. (DH is not a fan of driving in the city, or even driving in general! haha) I'm sure it will go well, fingers crossed for the best!

  • Don't be nervous! Freddie will be fine...most babies get lulled to sleep by the bumpiness of the ride. Try to relax and have a great trip! =)
