Feeding table food to baby?

When did you start giving your DC the same stuff you eat instead of baby food? We've been making Madi's food for 3 months, and she's been a great eater, but now she doesn't want her food (she still eats it, just not with the same gusto as before). Instead she wants whatever we're having. So on Sunday for dinner she had carne asada. For lunch yesterday she had bbq chicken. And she likes it! What's a mom to do?

Re: Feeding table food to baby?

  • I have been giving Katie what we eat for about a month and she loves it.  I usually just put some meat aside and don't put salt or seasoning on it and that is her portion.  She LOVES fish and it is really soft and mushy so that is what we started her on...salmon and talapia.  She usually has brown rice and whatever kind of veggie we have too.  I have not found a food that she won't eat.
  • Reese has been eating mostly table food for about 2 months now. We still keep some baby food on hand just in case but we rarely use it. She loves all kinds of meat, pasta, veggies, fruits, rice, tofu, cheese.
  • Jenn-How do you prepare the tofu for her?  Thanks!
  • Julie ...((butting in))...Jos loved tofu at that age.  We'd buy medium-firm tofu (at Ralph's) and just cut in cubes.  As a bonus, we'd slice some and quick fry them for us...and eat with a little soy sauce or ponzu.  LOL!  HTH!
  • They would eat it raw?  Hmmm...Matt had some tofu and I did not even think to give it to her until I tossed it (because he always eats one bite and that it is).
  •  I use the medium firm and cut it up and feed it to her raw. Sometimes I mix it in with some rice noodles or some diced fruit just to make it more fun.
  • We started at around 8-9months. It was around when she started to notice her food was different than ours and she would grab for whats on our plate.

Julie.....when can they eat fish? I thought I had to wait on fish because of the mercury content, but I could have misunderstood.

  • I am not sure....I gave her some because my (super-cautious-won't even let her kid wear sunscreen) friend did and I thought if she did it should be OK....lol.  Hmmm.....I will have to check with her MD about that one. Huh?
