Light question with Picture

By picture I mean a very skilled Microsoft Paint drawing :)

I recently pulled up a large rose bush right beside my steps (the small bush in the picture) and I'm looking for something to replace it with. I *think* the front part of my yard receives a lot of light b/c it's really sunny in the evenings. The sun kind of rises at an angle as you can see.

I feel silly but when I'm looking at plants I'm not really sure what receives direct light b/c my house does create a little bit of shade. The rosebushes do really well out front and I have 3 but I just wanted to try a different type of plant if I could.

Any ideas on what to replace the rose bush with and any suggestions on how to tell what kind of lighting is in the front? I appreciate any suggestions, this is all kind of new to me so I figure knowing my lighting would be a good place to start.

Oh, and the ginormous holly bush was added b/c I had to send this to my H to ask him about where we should put something so it's not really relevant to the question just in case you were wondering.

Happiest place on Earth!
