bare root roses

Has anyone ever planted these?  We planted 3 in out backyard almost 2 months ago and they have sprouted some shoots and leaves but nothing spectacular.  I would imagine they are going to be a work in progress for a while but can anyone tell me what type of growth I should be looking for?  Thanks Ladies!

You should see a lot of foliage now. Reds are usually the most vigorous, and yellows the least.

  • hmmm, we certainly don't have a lot of foilage....they are yellow though.  Anything you can suggest to get them growing?  They certainly don't look dead or anything, just a little slow....=(

  • I haven't planted any bare roots, but my rose "mentor" has and she was the one who came over to our new house and revived our rose bushes. Ours went from looking dead, full of hips and not producing anything. Now they are totally blossoming, in only a few weeks. Here are some of her tips, which I imagine would work with your roses to encourage growth:

--make sure you are using rose fertilizer (I used granules--I know she uses a spray connected to her hose)

--use Gro Mulch around the roses. This stuff stinks at first, but it gets better. It seems to have worked wonders

--water deeply (she said that roses like their leaves watered)

I agree with all those tips EXCEPT for water on leaves- roses are notoriously susceptible to fungus, so no way would I do that. They are heavy feeders, so do use rose fertilizer.
