Please help explain BB to me :)
I am interested in doing the BB but can't figure out how it works. I went to the wbiate, but all I can find is info on the pickup locations - nothing about pricing. Can you ladies help me out? TIA!

Re: Please help explain BB to me :)
$15.00 a basket
3.00 first time buyer fee
Handeling fee 1.50
19.50 first time you buy.
Organic baskets are more. And they have "add ons" sometimes. Mexican packs, Italian packs, etc. Price will be next to them on the order sheet.
Does that help?
I have a question about BB too, so I hope someone can answer. I've read a lot about them on peoples' blogs lately, but I don't really think it's practical for me and MH.
I know it's great for people who eat a ton of veggies (vegetarians) or families (go through a lot of food a week), but I feel like we could never eat that much in a week. We eat at home almost every night, but we eat too many grains, meats, etc., so we'd have to go to another full shopping trip.
Anyone else? Anyone think they wouldn't use it all, but did?
Julie, it's so nice your face is pooping in here more often! I wasn't sure if we could eat all of it either, so this first basket we are splitting with my folks...
Though, we have already eaten almost 2 loaves of bread and some of the fruit--granted I have 5 peeps--one of which is a man-hungareeee teenager
I think even if you end up with extras, it's a good deal on the moolah side.
I thought it would be way too much for us too, we didn't eat a whole lot of veggies before. But now I plan the entire weeks menu around the basket, making the veggie the main dish usually, but add in the protein (meat). The fruits are great to have for breakfast, and little snacks, so it goes fast. You can try it once and see what happens. If you have too much, find a good way to store it so that the basket lasts two weeks.
And like Shelly said, even if you end up trashing some of it, 15 bucks for all that produce that you would be buying at the store for double or even triple the amount of money...it's a great deal.
DH and I tried it twice a few years ago and I ended up throwing away too much produce. I still had to go to the store and buy the normal produce we use weekly (cabbage, bell peppers, onions, etc.) and there was stuff in there we don't eat. We tried splitting a basket once, but we still didn't think it was that great of a value. I spend less on the produce I need by going to Sprouts.
It's not for everyone, but it doesn't hurt to try it at least once!
Julie, DH and I are not vegetarians, and Lucy doesn't eat anything yet and we manage to get through it just find. I still have to go shopping if we need meat/eggs/grains etc. But we eat salad every day and fruits every day.
This week I made apple pie, mango peach ginger cobbler and baked apples with some of the fruit so it makes me branch out more, or cook more.
I think you would likely be able to get through it. OR find another friend/couple that wants to split. That way you are still spending WAY less money than the grocery store, supporting local farms and getting great food.
I think it is a smaller basket than back then....we have friends that used to do it a few years ago and they said the same thing, I'm pretty positive they are smaller baskets because before they used to do it every few weeks rather than every week from what she said.
I agree with Christina, getting these baskets make you branch out so much more on what you cook on a daily basis.
And I forgot to mention, that I have a weekly shopping trip (Saturdays) to get everything else i need. Meat, herbs, random veggies i didn't get. But like I said i plan my menu around what we get. To be honest, this week I was a little disappointed. But that's ok, cause DH leaves on Wednesday for a week, so I won't be cooking.
Jules - we have no problem going through it all, but produce is our main source of sustenance. Whats important is to be able to assess what you will and won't get through in a week. So freeze what you can right away, chop up the things you can and bag them so they'll last longer.
I love it. Even today, I was pretty disappointed with the majority of the selection/quantities...but I'm still happy and we'll work around it! If you make an effort, it really forces you to eat a lot of filling produce
Julie, My fiance is not a big veggies eater at all, but since we have been getting the BB we have been experimenting more witht he stuff that we get. So we still do go to the grocery store... although that is changing this week thatnsk to Jayes recent blogs but i just create our weekly menu around what we get in our basket. Fridays, we usually go out to eat sio it is the kitchen/my night off of cooking. But so far we have been able to get through all of it. But like Jaye said if there is something we think we will not be able to get through i prep iot and seal a meal it and pop it in the freezer .
yeah i agree. and i was really pissed most of the stuff i was actually going to use was bad by monday or tuesday! maybe if i knew what was in the basket before i ordered and knew we'd eat it. but there are a lot of things we just don't/won't eat and it's just a waste of money and food
I didn't think we'd be able to eat everything, so the first time I ordered we split with Jillian's family. We have come to love BB. Every Saturday morning we wake up excited to see what we'll get. We no longer split the basket, as we're getting through an entire basket each week (we freeze a few things occassionally).
As a result we have had minimal to no processed foods for the last 4-5 weeks - however long we've been doing this. We're trying new recipes and we feel healthier.
Can't wait to meet my baby boy!
This exactly! couldn't say it better myself tay
