Dinner party was a great success

Everyone had a fabulous time!  I got way more compliments on the food than I expected, so I'll give yall the rundown.  (This wasn't everything, just the things from online.)

Mixed grill with cilantro pesto - I ended up doing this on skewers since people would be perching.  Truthfully, the pesto just tasted like chopped leafy green stuff on the meat and the meat was just grilled meat.  Perfectly acceptable, but nothing wow-worthy.

Corn salad from Ina - everyone loved!  Rave reviews.  I doubled the recipe to serve 11 people and have just a little left over, so it saying it only serves 4-6 is accurate.

Mashed potato-stuffed bell peppers - rave reviews again and several recipe requests.  People looooved this.  I omitted the butter because I didn't see how it could possibly be necessary after 16 oz of sour cream and half a cup of shredded cheese lol

Rustic plum tart - very well liked by pie people.  I wasn't paying attention and used smaller, frozen pie crusts instead of the larger, refrigerated ones.  I ended up making two 7" tarts instead of one big one.  People loved it.  I think vanilla ice cream is really necessary with it to balance the flavors.  The reserved juices make an excellent sauce for the ice cream.  The allspice comes through loud and clear (surprisingly so), so if you're not an allspice person, this isn't for you.

Guest list - two couples our age, two couples our parents' age (neighbors) and an octogenarian mother of one of the neighbors.  A diverse guest list always makes for a fun time, so invite someone you don't see all the time.  Only one of the couples is a couple we see regularly and the rest were just acquaintances, so it was very fun to get to know each other better.  We got into very interesting discussions about a very wide range of topics and everyone ended up staying for four hours.

And as a reminder when you're a guest, you'll be most loved and most appreciated if you stay last and help clean up :)  I try to do this every time I'm a guest because I know how it feels when I'm the hostess faced with a mountain of dishes like I was tonight! lol
