Moving to SA and need housing info

Hi there, I'm been nesting and bumping for a while and we live in Florida. But in about a month we're moving to San Antonio due to my DH's job. He's been over there looking for a place to live but can't find anything that's right. We are looking to rent a 3 bedroom, 2 bath small house not too far from downtown SA. Of course DH loves Alamo Heights and those parts close to there but it's expensive or you get no space for your money. What areas are good to live in within 20 minutes of the city?

We're going nuts so any info would be appreciated! Our budget is around $1200.

P.S. We are non-smokers, no pets, have a baby and would like a yard, garage, one-level home that has been updated recently. I know, we don't ask for much, lol!

We live in NW San Antonio (Leon Valley area) and we could probably get to down town in 20 minutes if we wanted to. Is there a reason you want to live close to down town? I think unless you live in a high traffic area (281 & 1604 area) then it really isn't that bad to get around the city.
