My rhododendron didn't bloom?

I have a small rhododendron that I planted last spring.  By this time last May, it was in full bloom.  The others in the neighborhood are in bloom but mine isn't.  What could be wrong?  I pruned it right after it flowered last spring the way you're supposed to.  TIA

It's not putting out because you skimped on dinner.

Sorry, I'm kind of loopy on sugar right now. There could be a lot of reasons. Does it look healthy otherwise? Foliage good? Sometimes plants skip blooming for reasons you'll never know....

  • You can just fertilize it and wait on next year

I dont exactly prune mine.  I just dead head it

  • Pruning shouldn't have harmed a Rhododendron--they would normally bloom anyway. However, it could just be late blooming this year. I know we have several plants in our garden that bloom later than the same plant two houses down. Give it a few weeks, if it still hasn't bloomed, then do some research, a variety of factors could be at fault.
  • We have rhodies that bloom around the 4th of July.  They are an old variety (that came w our 100 y/o house).  Maybe your rhody was grown in a warmer climate or a greenhouse, so it bloomed earlier last year?
