What did you think of the finale? Loved it? Hated it? Still processing it?
Re: Lost!
***spoilers, in case anyone hasn't watched it***
Hated it. I feel like SO much went left unexplained. I did appreciate the character development and how they all got together at the end, but I thought they built up this whole story about the island and then failed to provide closure there. And I'm still confused on the details - if they all just died, did the island ever really exist? Or did they just die in a=the plane crash?
<---- Still LOST! haha
As I understand it, all of the events on the island occurred. I think Christian said something at the end like, "Everything that happened, happened."
And they all died, but not necessarily at the same time. Some died early (like Boon and Shannon), some died just then (like Jack), and some died much, much later (like Hurley and Ben). But I guess there's no real sense of time in Purgatory (or wherever they were), so that's why they all reunited at once.
I really liked it overall. It would have been nice if they answered some more of the questions about the island, but I was satisfied with how it ended. I thought it was neat how all of the long-separated couples got together at the end (even if they were dead). So for that reason, I thought it was a great way to tie things up.
I've read a few articles about it today. Did you realize that Jack died (closed his eyes) in the same spot where he opened his eyes when the plane first crashed on the island? And when he first woke, up Vincent (the dog) was there licking his face. So, that's why it was kind of neat that Vincent was there when he died. I didn't put all of that together when watching it last night, but I read about it today and think its kind of cool.
This is exactly what I thought! I could have written the same thing word for word. I would have liked them to explain more about what Smokey would have done if he'd gotten off the island and what exactly was the huge importance about the island? I didn't catch the part about Jack waking up and dying in the same spot. Very interesting!
Yes, definitely. I thought he would have a much bigger role in wrapping things up. I think that's just what the writers did though, was wrap things up as quick as they could and in doing so were unable to answer all the questions about the characters.
LVilla - I don't think they lived happy lives, etc. - they were finding each other after death but all of the misery on the island happened. They were still dead though.
Kasa - I pretty much agree with everything you typed. Widmore's death was anticlimatic, they left a lot unanswered (watch this video, hilarious), I think the Island was real life and the Sideways was purgatory, etc.
I liked the finale and overall I think they did a good job with it. They were in a tough spot because no matter what they did viewers were going to find something to complain about.
I did notice Jack died where the show started, which I liked, but I didn't make the Vincent connection.
I don't understand why all of them had to be in purgatory before they could move on to the afterlife though. Why did they have to go as a group?
LVila, how would you have liked it to end differently? I do think it would have been cool if Whidmore had a part in the end instead of dying abruptly. Regardless, I don't think it was anti-climatic by any means. Between Christian's revelation that everyone in the sideways world was dead, and the reunion at the church, I thought there was definitely a nice climax.
Juli, I'm kind of hazy on the specifics of the sideways world/purgatory. I guess my thought was that what they showed in the final episode was Jack's experience. So when he died on the island, then the reunion occurred in the church. But maybe a similar reunion occurred when each other person died. Christian Shepherd (ha!) noted that some people died before Jack and some died long after. He also indicated that time was relative in the sideways world when he said, "There is no 'now' here."
I don't know exactly how that worked.
