What is the message in the movie? I tried googling it after reading your first response and didn't get any clear answers...

The film makes a very clear message about how cruel humans can be - racism, xenocide. The whole containment area, and even just calling the aliens "Prawns"...it's so sad.
You really should finish watching it. Once you really get into meeting the main alien character it's fascinating.
